My Top Three Show Jackets That Don’t Break the Bank

February 25, 2019 No Comments

Horse shows have been mostly uncharted territory for me. I dabbled in it as a kid (a few 4H shows here and there) but not much else, especially for english riding. I’ve needed to update my showing wardrobe completely since stepping back into the show ring as an adult.

I waltzed into my local tack store and my post-college-entry-level-job wallet immediately began to cry — how could I possibly afford such nice things?! The bargain shopper in me said there had to be a less expensive way to still have a top-notch show experience without spending an arm and a leg. So here is the first article in my fun new series: “Show Jackets that Won’t Break the Bank”. These three inexpensive show coats will make your wallet happy and still get you noticed in the ring.

Kerrits Stretch Competitor Koat

The Kerrits Stretch Competitors Koat was my first show coat that I picked up last year before my first schooling horse trial. While it isn’t the most inexpensive show coat on the market, it is absolutely worth the few extra bucks. It’s under $130 (which is honestly hard to say for most high quality show jackets nowadays) and the durability and design are fantastic. It comes in a variety of colors (I own the light grey), has a zipper under the buttons, and is made with a stretchy softshell material that doesn’t restrict movements while you ride. I do find that it runs a tad big, so I recommend trying it on if you can!

Horseware Competition Show Coat

My show jumping colors for Piper are maroon and black, so when I found this maroon show jacket by Horseware my inner matchy-matchy girl started happy dancing. The color is seriously beautiful in person, plus it has a hidden zipper under the buttons (hooray to no awkward gaping) and is made out of a stretchy softshell material to keep you comfortable and cool while riding. It’s an inexpensive show coat AND it’s on sale right now for under $60, which meant I could buy a matching maroon saddle pad with the money I saved. Watch out, jumper ring — Piper and I are comin’ in hot! 😉

Aubrion Ladies’ Four Button Show Coat

I don’t personally own this jacket, but it’s the next one on my list to buy. The Aubrion Show Coat is a beautifully made jacket new to the scene. It is made with a slightly thicker material with an inner lining to keep everything smooth and looking clean while you ride. It comes in a stunning grey or traditional black, has a suede collar, and is both sporty and chic. For those of you who want to stay classic but have a little extra flair, this is the show jacket for you!

be free and spend happily!

If you are a bargain shopper, post-college adult ammy, or just want to save a few bucks, these inexpensive show coats are great quality and won’t break your bank account. Even better, Riding Warehouse always has great sales and close-out deals so be sure to check on their website whenever you can! Best of luck and see you in the show ring!
